How to Make this Spring Special
Traditionally, Spring is seen as ‘The Healthiest Season’ a period of planting, growth and rejuvenation. This is the time of year when we should be leaping out of bed and tackling a long list of to-do activities, compiled over the Fall and Winter months. Or at least thinking of doing some of those things.
Too often, the to-do list appears overwhelming but, maybe if looked at another way, it can be used as an incentive to modify and improve your life.
Afterall, if not during the Spring months, when is it a good time to try a few new and/or exciting experiences?
This time of year, because of the improving weather, you can get out in the sun to get some vitamin D. This in turn, can give you a boost to your mental health. Getting out more is likely to offer greater opportunities to socialize and that always helps our mood.
As soon as the mercury allows us, we should be opening up our windows and letting the Spring breeze freshen up our homes. After months of feeling we’ve been trying to cocoon ourselves from the cold now is the time to feel reinvigorated from the fresh air.
Now the fun part
Maybe Spring should not just be about looking forward but a chance to spend a few moments doing activities that generate some nostalgia.
Some things you could do on your own or with young family members.
- Feed the ducks at a pond
- Draw pictures on the sidewalk with chalk
- Fly a kite
- Have a picnic
- Plant something
How about trying a new haircut? It may surprise a few family members but also reminds them you don’t want to do everything the same way year after year.
While there will be tasks to do around the home they do not have to be done immediately. Maybe get a friend to assist and you can offer a similar favour to them. Sharing and doing can be part of the Spring experience.
It is also a great opportunity to spend time with family members. The longer days, hopefully, means relatives are more available to spend quality time with each other. It is good to keep in contact via new technology but memories are made when people can get together and can put their phones and laptops aside for a few hours.
As part of your Spring cleaning chores, try to store your winter clothes out of sight so you no longer have a constant reminder about the cold, dark months ahead. Before putting anything away, make sure it is not damaged. There is no point in waiting until next winter to realize the zipper on your heavy coat needs to be fixed, for example. Having all your winter gear stored away but ready for use offers great peace of mind.
Not having your winter clothes in constant view may be a good reminder to get out and enjoy the sunshine! There are many days ahead when simple tasks could offer great memories for you and your friends or family.
One other fun Spring task, how about writing a Limerick? If you do, and want to share please send to info@hearttohomemeals.ca
